Smash The Jar - Sylvia Plath was 30 when she ended her own life in 1963. An accomplished poet and writer, who like most sensitive and intelligent women, struggled to fit it and be herself without criticism or competition. There is a reference made to her grave, which features in an episode of Happy Valley, when Catherine visits her own daughter’s grave which is situated in the same graveyard. No doubt there are multiple reasons why the series writer Sally Wainwright chose to feature her in a drama that deals with abuse and suicide.
